AHK panel discussion “Challenges in Practice 4 Months After the Amendment of the Regulations on Foreigners”

On 29 May 2024, the Legal Committee of the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (AHK Serbia) held a panel discussion on the implications of the revised regulations on foreign nationals.

The panel discussion was attended by representatives of the state and a number of guests from a variety of economic sectors. The following officials provided detailed insights into the most critical issue of recent times:

– Sanja Gavranović, Head of the Group for Normative and Study-Analytical Affairs in the Area of Employment, Economic Migration and Supervision in the Area of Employment, Labour and Employment Sector at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs

  • Snežana Nekvasil, Head of the Department for Normative and Legal Affairs in the Sector for Unemployment Insurance and Legal Affairs at the National Employment Agency
  • Biljana Marić, Deputy Director, Office for IT and eGovernment
  • Vesna Lalić, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Ivana Đogović, Police Major and Head of the Department for Status Issues in the foreign police department of Belgrade
  • Biljana Krstović, Police captain and commissioner in the foreign police department of Belgrade

Attorney at Law Jelena Todorović, representing the law firm TSG Advokati, participated in the panel discussion as one of the moderators, alongside a number of experienced experts.

The event offered a comprehensive overview of the legislative changes and their implications. The panelists, who have considerable experience in this field, presented the new regulations governing the hiring of foreign nationals and addressed numerous controversial topics. Four months after the introduction of the new system, participants were invited to share their experiences and the numerous challenges they have faced since the beginning of the modified process for obtaining/extending temporary residence and work permits or obtaining a single work permit. The discussion was very lively. Following the panel discussion, the attendees were invited to continue the conversation in an informal setting, where they discussed the results and implications of the changes.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the panellists, as well as to our esteemed sponsor, AHK Serbia and its legal committee. The committee was established with the objective of providing information on current and relevant legal issues and case law in Serbia.
