TSG lawyers at Vienna Arbitration Days 2020
Inspiring Discussions on Current Developments in International Arbitration
The 2020 Vienna Arbitration Days (VAD) were held on 21 and 22 February under the auspices of the Austrian Arbitration Association, Austrian Yearbook on International Arbitration, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC) and Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners (YAAP). The TSG Law Office was represented by Ms Ljubica Tomic, Managing Partner.
This year’s Vienna Arbitration Days brought together outstanding key-note speakers, moderators and participants from all over the world to the extraordinary venue of Palais Niederösterreich in order to discuss significant contemporary issues in international arbitration. The conference was opened by keynote speaker, Mr. Richard Kreindler, Partner, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. The main panel sessions addressed topics such as safeguarding public interest in arbitration, public policy, competition and insolvency.
On the second day, an innovative panel format pioneered Vienna Arbitration Days, The World Café Panel, gave the participants an opportunity to join small group round-table discussions on a wide range of topics. This year’s most important issues concerned private and public interests in international arbitration and public policy. Some of the specific topics included the role of arbitrator in safeguarding public interest, consideration of values underpinning arbitration, the need to develop a common international definition of the notion of public interest, and many more.
The Vienna Arbitration Days conference was followed by the Juristenball, a ball for the members of the legal profession held at the Hofburg Palace as a part of the traditional Viennese Ball Season. The memorable atmosphere, decorations and program of a traditional Viennese ball offered a great opportunity for legal professionals from around the world to connect with their Austrian colleagues, share experiences and celebrate their work in a glamorous setting.
